FAQ

  • Q: What is this "bus factor" thing?
    A:
The "bus factor" of an idea is the number of people that would need to die unexpectedly ("get hit by a bus") in order for that idea to get lost or be forgotten forever. According to The Urban Dictionary, "The Bus Factor is the number of people that could be run over by a bus before a software project would have code nobody is familiar with (or for the project to be neutralized)". This original meaning of the phrase has been generalized for any meme or idea.
